The website for the club is coming along nicely, and you can view it at http://hotspringshomebrewers.com. Our discussion forum is at http://www.homebrewedhs.com/forums/ If you would like to be able to add content for the club, let me know, so we can get you set up with an account. WordPress is an easy format to learn, much like posting on Facebook.

We have also connected a Twitter and Facebook Fan Page for the club, to give everyone a chance to keep up with events over the next year. You can find us on line by looking up the Hot Springs Home Brewers on either of those social media sites.

The Hot Springs Home Brewers decided to do a club brew for the meeting for the month of September. The club decided to do a nice Pumpkin Spice Ale for the upcoming holiday season. We used the Northern Brewer all grain kit for the basis of the brew. However, we felt that the spices were off in the kit, so we added a fair bit of cinnamon to the recipe. The basic kit from our friends at Northern Brewer have the spices heavy with nutmeg and ginger, and allspice.

It was a 10 gallon batch. We also had new visitors to the event, who came to learn about the whole process of brewing beer. Here are some of the pics from the event, the rest can be viewed in our photo gallery.

The Hot Springs Home Brewers recently got together at the home of Bill Furnas with a real mission in mind: we were in search of the perfect Red Irish Ale. The quest started with a great all grain kit from Northern Brewer. Then with a group of friends to share homebrew, and help with the mash and boil, we were well on our way.

We used Bill’s All Grain System to brew. It is designed around two 10 gallon Igloo coolers. Bill assembled the pieces of the system himself. It was set up on a table. the large upside down cooking pot adds height to the Hot Liquor Tank, so it can gravity feed into the Mash Tun. It was sitting on a chair. In the floor was his brew pot, which was made from an old beer keg. During Sparging, Bill is able to control the whole system flow from HLT, to Mash Tun, for brew pot with the weldless ball valves attached to each cooler.

The Mash was great. With the cooler system, we were able to hold the correct tempurature of the strike water.

A little better view of the whole system. If you would like to know more about the all grain cooler system used here, just reach out to us at contactus@hotspringshomebrewers.com. We’ll help you set one up, give you advise on buying one pre assembled, and help you know who has the best prices in Arkansas on the items needed.

We officially started the Hot Springs Home Brewers with our first club meeting at the home of Justin Chastant. It was a hot Sunday afternoon, but that did not stop us from getting together in the yard, under the power of a big fan, and enjoying the home brewed beer and mead of the members. Mead was a kind of unofficial theme for the first meeting. We also talked about the water supply in the Hot Springs area, and how that supply is very good for brewing beer.

Justin and Briana brought mead, as well as Russell Brit and Ray Province. Some of the beers there that day were an Irish Red Ale, a lemon grass ale, Carabou Slobber Brown Ale, and many others.
